Versailles Night Stands

Hey guys!

Check out this set of night stands/ side tables that Monique and I painted last week!

We painted them with Annie Sloan Versailles.  Versailles is like a khaki green and I LOVE it!  We did two coats.  (I mention the number of coats because sometimes we only use one to get more of a rustic look)

Once the paint was dry we sanded them in spots where they might wear naturally.

I think they came out gorgeous!  I want to keep them but Monique won't let me!  Hahaha!

Damask Table

Hey guys!

Today I want to show you a super cute table that I revived.

It's a little Bombay Company table that I picked up at a local charity thrift shop for $6!

I painted it with Annie Sloan Duck Egg Blue, and sanded it to show some of the wood color underneath.  I added a white damask pattern using a vinyl stencil that I made with my Silhouette Cameo.  You can see how to do this here.

Isn't it cute?

Because Chalkboard

Monique (BFF/ biz partner) and I will be doing a vendor event on November 9th at a local restaurant to benefit Ronald McDonald House of the Hudson Valley.  It will be our first event as a team so we're pretty excited!

I picked up a bunch of unfinished wood frames at Michaels for $1.  I knew I could do something with them!  I also picked up some unfinished wooden rectangles that fit nicely over the opening of the frames.  My head is always swimming with creative ideas (it's an illness really lol).

I decided to paint a couple of frames with Annie Sloan Versailles (my current fav).  I painted two coats on the frames.  I then painted my rectangles with black chalkboard paint.

I sanded the frames (my fav part of working with Annie Sloan paint) just a bit.

I made three rolled roses out of muslin and hot glued them to the corner of my frame.  Then I hot glued the chalkboard pieces to the frame.

Lastly, I printed out the saying "I love you because..." in black vinyl and applied that to the frames.

I think they came out cute!  They will definitely be making an appearance at the vendor event!

Antiqued Wine Rack

Hey guys!

Today I want to show you another piece that was destined for a landfill.  It's another piece that a friend rescued from the trash for Monique and I.

The potential of this piece screamed at us!

Monique painted it with Annie Sloan Pure White.  I then took some 100 grit sandpaper and did some sanding to the piece.  Monique only did one coat of paint because we want it to be really rustic and antique looking.

I made some stencils with my Silhouette and used some black acrylic craft paint to create the writing on the top and the fleur de lis on each side.  Once that was dry, I did some more sanding.  You can see how I use vinyl as a stencil here.

To age the wine rack more, I used Annie Sloan dark wax and applied it with a rag.  I'm not going to lie, this step scared the crap out of me!  I wiped this wax on and used fine steel wool to sort of buff some of the wax off.  I used the steel wool immediately, I don't advise you wait for it to dry.

The last step is to coat the entire piece with some finishing wax and buff it.

This wine rack is going to be very hard to let go of!  I absolutely LOVE it!

Vinyl As A Stencil

Hey guys!

Today I'm going to show you how to use vinyl as a stencil.  It's easy peasy!

First cut your desired design on your Silhouette.  Next, remove the inside of your design leaving the negative portion of the design.  You can see what I mean here...

Apply your stencil to your piece.  Once you remove the transfer tape (this step not shown) take a minute to make sure that all edges of the stencil are adhered to your surface.

Now, using your desired color of acrylic craft paint and a sponge brush, lightly apply paint to your stencil.

Allow the paint to dry completely.  Once dry, carefully peel away your stencil.

I chose to lightly sand the area that I stenciled onto the tabletop.  The choice is yours.

This table was destined for a landfill, until a friend rescued it for my business partner and I.  We painted it Annie Sloan Old White, and distressed it.  The last step will be to apply some finishing wax to protect the piece.

P.S.  My BFF/business partner and I have come up with a name for our furniture restoration biz, ShabbyChic911!  We are both 911 dispatchers so adding that to our name was a given!  Follow us on Instagram @shabbychic911 and on Facebook!

Halloween Pails

Hey guys!

Yesterday I ran into Michael's to get a birthday gift for my cousin's daughter.  They had the most adorable "beach pails" in Halloween colors.  They were 99 cents!  My mind immediately started seeing the possibilities!  So I picked up two orange pails.

I printed out little Kaitlyn's name with a cute little ghost in white vinyl.  I did one for her baby brother too, as we were celebrating his baptism also.

Here's little Connor's pail.

I put their gifts in the pail instead of using a gift bag...

I think I'll be going back for two more for my niece and nephew!

Painted Treasures

Hey guys!  How have you been?  Did you have a great summer?

I can't believe summer is officially over!  Yikes!  Where has this year gone?

I guess I took sort of an unplanned hiatus from blogging.  I'll explain more later, but for now I'm back with a new obsession!

My best friend and I recently decided to try our hands at painting furniture.

We've been scouring yard sales, thrift shops, and even roadsides for furniture that needed a little love.  It's so much fun bringing new life to someone else's tossed aside treasures!

I wanted to show you this child's booster chair that I found at a local thrift shop.

This is the before...

I painted the chair a pale sage green DIY chalk paint.

Then I applied a vinyl stencil that I made with my Silhouette.  I painted the stencil on with a soft white acrylic paint.

Once everything was dry, I sanded the chair with 100 grit sand paper.  I applied some finishing wax to protect the paint.

Here's the after...

I love it!  What do you think?

You are beautiful.

Every girl needs a reminder that she's beautiful, right?

When my little chickie asked me to make this vinyl saying to go over the mirror in her room, I was thrilled!  Any chance to remind my chickie that she's beautiful works for me!  I remember how hard it was being a teenage girl.  I can't even imagine what it's like now!  Holy moly!

FYI- I edited this picture quite a bit because well...chickie isn't that great at keeping her room tidy!  Lol!

This vinyl is now available in my Etsy shop and on my FB page if you're interested!

We Made a Wish sign

My cousin asked me if I would make a sign for her to give to a good friend at her baby shower.  She knew she wanted it to say "we made a wish and you came true."  I had made a sign for her when she was expecting her daughter that said that!

This is what I came up with...

I hope the new parents love it!

Summertime Fun & A FREEBIE!

Hey guys!

As you know...we recently moved to a new neighborhood.  Of course you want your the transition to go smoothly.  Part of this is meeting new neighbors and well...being neighborly.

So when this guy pulled his usual disappearing act...I was mortified!

Thankfully...he ran right to our new next door neighbor!

Then last week...I got a knock on the door.  I open the door to find that same neighbor's wife with this  girl on a leash...

To thank our neighbors for capturing my wayward babies...I put together a little summer treat for them.

What better summer treat than s'mores?

And...because I love you guys...I'm offering that SUMMERTIME FUN decal to the first 5 of you to comment below!
