Crafting for a good cause!

Woo-wee! It's been so busy around here! We've been busy sprucing up the yard and flower beds for spring. My daffodils have started to bloom... I'm sooo excited!!!

Along with these chores, I have been getting my craft on!

The three signs below, I created for my friend Lisa. She owns the pet rescue, Recycled Paws, that we adopted Cody and Daisy from. The site for the rescue is here.

Lisa is holding a silent auction and wine tasting to raise money for the great work that she and her helpers do.

I volunteered to create three signs for her to put up for auction.

I hope they raise a bunch of money!

I'm also trying to come up with an exclusive design that I will sell in my Etsy store to raise money for Recycled Paws! Stay tuned!

Family Room Reveal... FINALLY!!!!

I'm FINALLY ready to reveal the re-do of our Family Room! Woot woot!!!!!

First, let me say that you will never see this room in any home decor magazine. Hee hee!

I wasn't out to create a room fit for the finest European castles, or the most beautiful North American Mansions or Villas.

My goal was to create a comfy space for our little family. One that the kiddos would be proud to bring their friends into to hang out. One that the Prince and I would be proud to invite our family and friends to join us for movie night or the big game. And lastly, one that would allow our furry babies to be comfy without us worrying about them ruining anything.

I hope you enjoy the tour of our new Family Room! You can see the before pictures here.

This first pic is the entry area. We installed a new front door (yay!!!!), new Brazilian Cherry pre-finished hardwood floors (LOVE!!!). I added some cute hooks and a basket to catch all the things the kids bring in the front door with them.

This is also the hutch top that my cousin was going to throw out and the Prince re-did for me! I think it looks cute here! It holds the kiddos' books, and dvd's (functional YAY!!!).

Next is my absolute favorite part of the room. You can see in the before pics that this used to be a solid wall. The Prince and I always dreamed of knocking the wall out and putting a pretty banister in it's place. I absolutely LOVE it!!!! We stained the banister with a walnut stain.

We added this brown leather arm chair for extra seating. Isn't that pillow cute? It's from Wally world!!!

This is where our tv now resides. The shelf under it isn't very pretty, but it holds our electronic necessities.

This is our new sectional. This guy and I have a love hate relationship! It's enormous. Which is what we wanted because we wanted a comfy space for us all to relax. But... GAHHHH! Hee hee!

Lastly, the chaise part of the sectional (Mom's spot... hee hee!). You'll notice my new window mistreatments here. Not sure I'm crazy about the sheers, but I'll figure something out (I'll keep you posted).

Making a guest appearance in this pic is little Maya and our brand new rescue puppy, Cody!!!

Some quick details to share with you. The paint color is Gaucho from Walmart's Color Place. It almost exactly matches the Brown Tee Pee that I used in the kitchen and breakfast room. The area rug is fro EBay and was... are you ready...$19.95!!!!

I hope you enjoyed the tour!

Window Mistreatments

So, I needed to come up with window treatments for the Family Room.

I picked up fabric that I loved at Hobby Lobby for 50% off.

The problem? I don't sew... AT ALL!

What's a girl to do? Why go and visit the Nester of course!!!!

If you haven't visited the Nester and checked out her window mistreatments, you simply must!!!!

I was perusing through her mistreatments when I saw one that she did in her sister's kitchen. Check it out here.

I thought, OK this I can do. So I hauled my butt to Walmart and picked up some upholstery tacks and got to work.

This is how the window treatment started. Functional, but not really pretty.

This is the final (maybe... hee hee!) product. I added some sheers with a tension rod. I decided on the sheers because this is the only window in the room and I needed it to stay bright and light.

Stay tuned because if I finish up one last project, I will be revealing the finished (sorta... hee hee) Family Room tomorrow!!!! Yay!!!
