"Junk" Baskets

A while ago I saw this idea over at Right At Home, and thought it was the answer to my prayers!

Well, not really, but the answer to an annoying problem anyway!

My teenagers have a horrible habit of leaving trails of their stuff all over the house.  Each day when I clean up, I put whatever needs to go upstairs on the stairs in hopes that they will get the hint.

Well, it doesn't always work out that way.

What I usually end up with by the end of the day are 2 different piles of stuff overflowing on the stairs!

This irritates me to no end, as I hate the sight of clutter!

So this past weekend, hubby and I were at The Christmas Tree Shop and I saw these really cool baskets!

They are made of recycled magazines!!!!

How cool is that???

They were only $3.99 too!

So, I thought I could spray paint them and add come cute tags.  That way the piles on the stairs won't look so messy!

I added just a teensy bit of leopard print paper... cute, right?

What do you think?

Speical Signs

Holy moly it's HOT here in NY!

We had a hint of fall last week, unfortunatley it was short lived!

Anyway, I mentioned the other day that I had been squeezing some custom signs into my schedule.  So I figured I'd show you a couple.

This first one was a special request from my Sister-in-Law.  She wanted a special sign for her best friend's Bridal Shower.

I suggested we add a lyric from their wedding song, which is a Keith Urban song.

I think it came out sooo cute!!!!

The second sign is a gift for a co-worker of mine.  She welcomed her 2nd child, a son, at the beginning of the month... 4 weeks early.

Little guy wasn't doing so well.  He battled pneumonia and is still battling blood clots at his tiny size!

I thought this sign was appropriate for this little miracle!  My co-worker, Dana, loved it too!!!!

The good news is that little Aiden came home from the hospital this past Friday!!!!  Yay!!!!

Have a great week!!!

P.S. I'm linking up to Craftomaniac...check out the other crafty chicks!!!!

Little Monkey!

First off, I want to thank those of you that left sweet comments on my last post about weight loss.

I'm happy to report that things are going good so far!!!  Yay!

I'll keep ya posted!

I've been really busy lately getting ready for a Craft Show that I will be doing on September 18th, and have been squeezing in some custom orders here and there.

I'll get some more pics up here soon!

Any-hoo, I wanted to show you a sign that I did for my niece Maddy's new jungle themed room.

Sorry the picture quality isn't that great, I took it with my Blackberry to send for my Mom to see.

This little monkey LOVES to jump around!

I hope you are all having a great week!

Weight Loss- My Never Ending Problem

Actually, I should restate that as the problem that I'm hoping will finally end now.

All my life, my weight has gone up, my weight has gone down.

Now...I am at my heaviest weight EVER!!!!

Earlier this year, I started working with my cousin's hubby who is a nutritionist.  And... I failed!

So, I am going to once again start the Weight Watcher's program.

I have tried this program before and had some success with it.  I found it to be easy to follow and family friendly... a huge plus for me!

This time, I am determined to be a success story.

Ya see, a few months ago, my doctor ran some routine blood tests.  The results were that I was "pre-diabetic".

My mother's entire family struggles with diabetes, and I had blindly hope that I would be "immune".

Ha Ha Ha!!!

Per the doc, if I get my weight down to a healthier level, I can be one of the lucky ones!

So... wish me luck, cuz I'm gonna need it!

With love,

High School Reunion

This past Saturday night, the Prince and I went to his 20 year high school reunion!

I was a little concerned about going because I didn't go to school with him and was afraid I wouldn't know anyone, etc.

However, I had the BEST time!!!!!

Hubby's best friend and his wife came in from Oklahoma.  It was so great to see them!   They were both in our wedding party 17 years ago.  Shortly after that, Jay enlisted in the Army.  After tours in Bosnia, Iraq, and Afghanastan, he's back in the states. So glad they were able to make it!

This is a pic of my Prince (2nd from the left) with Jay (on the left) and a couple of other guys from school.

This is a pic of Jay's wife, Beth and myself.

It was a little wierd being the only Tiger in a sea of Sailors, but it was a great night!

When we did our kitchen remodel recently, the conversation of a backsplash came up.

Hubby wanted to do tile and maybe even add some glass tile.

Well, I really like the thought of a tile backsplash.  Visions of some of the beautiful ones that I've seen around Bloggyland swirled in my head.

We went to Home Depot and Lowes several times and looked at the options that they had.  Again, I looked to Bloggyland for inspiration.

While I loved what I saw, the choices were a little overwhelming I must admit.

I also thought of the cost, and the fact that my tastes change so frequently.  Imagine spending a boatload of $$$ on beautiful tile and hating it a few months down the road.  Yikes!!!

So, I got creative and remembered seeing projects that were done using stencils and joint compound.  Ideas again started swirling around in my head.

I headed to Hobby Lobby to check out the stencils.  I found a large one with fleur-de-lis that I loved!  I thought this big stencil would look awesome over my sink!

I also found a smaller stencil for the actual backsplash area.

I stopped at Home Depot on the way home to pick up some joint compound and a spackle knife, so excited to get this project started!!!  I'm so sorry that I didn't take more pics of the process for you guys!

I started off by positioning the large stencil over the sink, and then slathered the joint compound on using the spackle knife.  Then removed the stencil.  I loved the rough look of the joint compound!

I continued with the smaller stencil until I got the effect I wanted.

Let it dry overnight (if it's humid, it will take longer for the joint compound to dry).

Once it was dry, I painted over it with the same paint used for the walls (Behr Brown Tee Pee).

Once that was dry, I dry brushed over it with white paint.  I was LOVING the way it looked, but it was nearly impossible to keep the paint on just the raised areas (and I had already thrown the stencils out because they got gross).

So, I let the white dry and then took a small paint brush and tried to "clean" it up with the wall paint.

This was a disaster!!!!  It took forever, and was tedious!

Soooo... in the end I re-painted with the wall color.  And... I LOVE the subtle look of it!!!

This pic didn't come out very well, I'll have to work on getting a better one for you guys!!!
