This past Saturday morning, 10 minutes into my shift as a 911 operator, I recived a call that no one wants to get. I picked up the line, and to my shock, the address that popped up on the screen was my mother-in-law's, and the voice on the other end of the line was indeed Prince Charming's mother.
My mother-in-law informed me that my father-in-law was unresponsive. I stayed on the line with her while my partner dispatched an ambulance and medic to her house.
I told her that I would contact the Prince, and we would be right there.
Prince Charming and I pulled up to her home and there was a flood of people scurrying around, red lights everywhere. I was relieved for an instant to see my brother had made it to the scene, knowing that he was very well trained as an EMT and was very good at his job. Unfortunately, the next sight that I saw was my father-in-law being wheeled out of the house on a stretcher with equipment helping him to breathe.
Later in the day, he was transferred to the nearest trauma center. It turns out, he had an aortic dissection, which caused a massive heart attack and stroke. Later tests showed that he no longer had any brain activity.
Yesterday, the decision was made to take "Pop" off of life support. Early this afternoon, he passed away.
The Prince is an only child and is feeling the pressure to take care of everything on his own. I wish more than anything that I could take the pain away for him. I love my Prince Charming with every ounce of my being!
