Josie's best friend (or BFF as the girls say) is having a birthday on Saturday.

I love giving gifts, but I can't just simply wrap up a gift and give it. I just can't.

I have to "DO IT UP"!!! I just have to!

I bought these really cute flip flops and shades for the BFF. I couldn't just stop there though. I made cute little tags for them.

The tag on the flip flops says, "I hope you "flip" over your Birthday!"

The tag on the shades says, "I hope your Birthday is so bright you have to wear shades!"

Mod Podge Mania!

Xazmin at This is the Year is hosting a great party today! Mod Podge Mania!!! Lots of creative ladies are linking up to this party, so be sure to head over there and check it out!

This first project was a plaque that I found in the craft section of Dollar Tree. I mod podged some pretty scrapbook paper on it. And, you know a project for me is never complete unless I've used my Cricut, so I cut the welcome sign out with black cardstock. I used some white paper behind the welcome part to make it stand out.

This second project some of you have seen before. It was a gift for my cousin's daughter. I picked up this bench at Michaels, painted it white, used my Cricut (of course) and some pretty scrapbook paper to personalize the bench for Ellie!
I can't wait to see what everyone else has created!!!

Met Monday

I'm posting a little early for my first Met Monday! Met Monday is a party hosted by Between Naps on the Porch each Monday. You have to check it out!!!

I was rearranging my family room last weekend, and thought we could use a little more seating. I jumped onto Craigs List, and found a very generic oak rocking chair for $30! I didn't take a picture of it before I painted it. Bummer!

I whipped out my black satin spray paint, and transformed the chair into what you see above. I know what you are thinking, how can I consider this a metamorphasis when I didn't take a before picture.

It's true, I neglected to do that, but this is a picture of the space before I prettied it up!

This is what the space looks like now! Trust me, that chair looks sooo much better black! That little black table was a Christmas Tree Shop find a few years ago. I was no longer using it, so George dragged it out of the shed for me.

Some of you who have visited me a few days ago will recognize those 2 platters on the wall. If you don't know what I'm talking about, you can find info about it here.

I'm really happy with the metamorphasis of this space! Josie loves to sit here and read, too! Bonus!!!

Let me know what you think of this idea.

Ok, so I have been seeing posts by a lot of bloggers about various types of "Pay it Forward" projects. I think these are a great idea! I also received a good response to my Dollar Tree projects. Which led me to believe that there is an interest in inexpensive home decor and gifts.
So, it got me thinking. Who doesn't love to recieve little surprises in the mail? Who doesn't love new home decor items?
What do you think about a "Pay it Forward" using dollar store, or dollar spot projects with a limit of $5? My thought is that if you decide to participate you will create a gift or home decor item for the first person to respond to your post regarding it. These items would be created with only items from the dollar store, Michaels or Target's dollar spot, etc., and supplies that you already have on hand. Not to exceed $5. These items will be sent to that first person to comment on your blog about this project within 60 days. The date of arrival will be a surprise.
Let me know if this is something that interests you. If I get a good response to this idea, I will set it in motion in the next couple of weeks.
Can anyone help me out with a posting/editing issue? My posts are sometimes blending all together instead of spacing between paragraphs. No matter how many times I try to edit the spaces back in, they disappear when I post. Help?
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Cookie Sheet Tray?

Ok, remember the cookie sheet from Dollar Tree that was pictured in my last post?
Well, this is what it looks like now!!!! Woo-hoo!!!
I know what you're thinking... a cookie sheet? Why not? It was exactly the size and shape I wanted for a coffee table tray. I looked and I looked, but I couldn't find anything more suitable at the Dollar Tree this morning.
Sooo, after some more creamy white spray paint, a rubber stamp, some brown paint, and antiquing medium... WELLA!!! Yes, I've been busy today!!!

Frugal Friday!

I am participating in my first Frugal Friday!!! Yay!!! The Shabby Nest hosts a Frugal Friday Linky Party every Friday.

I have 2 contributions to the party. First, you see those little silver trays in the picture above? I got them at the Dollar Tree this morning.

With a little creamy white spray paint, black cardstock, and my Cricut... this is what two of those trays became!!! I *heart* them soooo much!!!

My second contribution to the party is this cute cloche that I got at Michaels on clearance for $3.50, the dessert plate I had already.

With some spanish moss from the Dollar Tree again, and some little plastic eggs that I had in my craft stash, I have my very first BIRDS NEST!!!!
I know I'm breaking the rules, because I don't know how to get the link to the url for this post only. If someone can help me, I'd greatly appreciate it!!! Thanks!
I hope you *heart* these projects as much as I do!
Have a great weekend!

THE List...

So, some of my bloggy "friends" have a little list going on... their top 5 celebrity crushes. I thought to myself, "oh this is one list I HAVE to get in on!"

So, without further ado... top of my list is Jon Bon Jovi. Sigh! I've crushed on him since he was Slippery When Wet, and had hair longer than mine! This man just gets better looking with age!

Second is Kevin Bacon. I've crushed on him since 1984, when he was Ren in Footloose. This is still my favorite movie of all time!

Third is Rob Thomas of Matchbox Twenty. Sigh!

Fourth is Matthew McCaughnehy (sorry if I butchered that spelling), need I say more?

Last, but definately not least, Patrick Dempsy. Everyone's favorite doctor!

However, see that guy that is looking over his team here? That's the man that still stops my heart everytime I see him, even after 17 years! He's the regular guy that stands out above the rest in my eyes. He's the dad, the husband, the coach, the firefighter, the everything in my life! By the way, see that little #62? That's my little Josie! Yup, the only girl in a tackle football league! You go girl!

Attitude for Gratitude!

Laura from White Spray Paint has given me the Attitude for Gratitude Award! Thank you, Laura!!!

Head over and visit Laura's blog, because I *heart* it!!! She loves spray paint as much as I do, and wait until you see what she does with it!!!

The Rules of Accepting and Sharing this Award
1. Put the logo on your blog or post
2. Nominate at least 10 blogs that show an attitude of gratitude
3. Link to your nominees within your post
4. Comment on their blogs to let them know they've received this award
5. Share the love and link to this post and the person who nominated you for the award.
Tell us how you've come to have an attitude gratitude.

I am grateful for so much in my life! I truely feel blessed. I am grateful everyday that my family is happy and healthy. I watched my dear brother learn how to walk and talk all over again after a long struggle with severe vasculitis. I then watched as he fought for his life after he was stricken with lymphoma. There is nothing worse, in my opinion, than watching someone you love go through these ordeals. This is why I try not to take for granted time that I get to spend with my family. I know that there are times that this time is taken for granted, but please do my a favor and cherish every moment you have!

Now, I'd like to pass this award onto 10 of my bloggy "friends." Some of these bloggers are old friends, and some are new friends. However, all of them have impressed me for different reasons.

I think it's safe to assume that Spring has finally sprung!

It was an absolutely perfect day here in NY! I just couldn't have asked for a better day! We spent the whole day outside sprucing up the yard. We are all a little sunburned, but got a ton accomplished! This is a photo that Josie took of my weeping cherry tree. I love it, and you can see the bright blue sky in the background!!!

Brady had a fabulous day sunning himself! Isn't he handsome?

Soccer anyone? 'Cause Abby's ready to play! She's very possessive of her soccer ball (which she stole from Josie)!
I hope you are all enjoying this beautiful spring weekend (and I hope it's beautiful where you are)!
***Check in tomorrow to check out my GIVEAWAY!!!!***

Cool Pic and a Giveaway!

George took this picture, especially for you guys (he even said so)!

Isn't the reflection from the sun shining in the window onto this hurricane cool? It reflected on all the walls in the breakfast room!

I know this was pretty random, but I had to post it just for George!

I was out doing a little bit of shopping today and I came across a little something that I know someone out there will enjoy. So...being I'm coming up on my 50th post, I thought I'd do a small giveaway for you guys. Come back and visit this weekend for more details!

I hope you are all having a great day!

I thought I'd show you all a picture of my modest, humble garden. Try not to be jealous, ladies! It is a labor of love.

Fooled ya! I only wish that was my garden! Gardening is a new hobby for me, one that I've developed over the past 3 years or so.

When we first moved to Eventually Cottage, the only gardens to be seen were rock gardens, with a ton of garden gnomes. I kid you not! My dear mother in law (who we purchased the home from) was not the most talented gardener. The only existing plants in the "gardens" were a huge hydrangea, and a rose bush. I dearly treasure these two original plants in my gardens.

As I mentioned before, the "gardens" were no more than rock gardens. When I say rocks, I mean little white rocks. EVERYWHERE!!!! It took Prince Charming and I a whole weekend to rid the "flower bed" of these horrible little things! Everynow and then I still find one when I'm working in the gardens. I loathe those little white rocks. I know I hide that fact really well, right?

After three years, we've added more hydrangeas (which I love), peonies (a gift from my dear friend, Diane), lillies, spirea, knockout roses, daisies, and a beautiful white weeping cherry tree (in memory of my dear brother). It truely has been a labor of love, and quite the learning experience. While my gardens cannot compare to some that I have seen in bloggyland, I'm very proud of them.

This weekend, I will be out in those gardens, sprucing them up for the season. Time for new compost and mulch. I'll try to remember to take some pictures of what's popping up out there right now.

Enjoy your day!

When you have some time, hop on over to Pretty Organized Palace. She is starting a series of 12 Homemaking tips. I have been following her blog for a while now and I think she's awesome! She has 6 children, and anything she has to say about organizing, I am willing to hear with open ears!
Homemaking may not be at the top of everyone's priority list, but I am always looking for ways to do it better and to make it easier! While I do work outside of the home full-time, I still make homemaking a priority. I consider it 'blessing my family', and myself for that matter. It makes me happy to 'feather my nest' so to speak and make our home a happy, cozy, comfortable place for my family and one that they are proud to invite our family and friends into.
Tell me your favorite homemaking tips or advice! By the way, can anyone tell my why my posts are blending all together? I am spacing between paragraphs, but they aren't showing that way after I post them! It's annoying me!

Easter Nests

Josie and I had a great time this morning making Rice Krispie treat nests for tonight's dessert. I had seen them on someone's blog, but I can't remember who's. Sorry about that.Ready to go into the fridge to set up.
The finished product! Can't wait until dessert! Yum!!!

From my family to yours, Happy Easter!

Kasey's Garden Party!

Hop on over and visit Kasey! She's having a garden party to celebrate her 200th post!

How much fun would a garden party be? I may have to keep that in mind for later in the season!

Update on my sketch.

Well, I do believe I found a home for the sketch my MIL had done of my kiddos and Brady.

I'm kinda lovin the black and white of this arrangement. Whatcha think?

See those little white birds? Cute, right? They didn't start out that way. I wish I had taken a before picture of them, but I had gotten the idea a while ago from Kimba at A Soft Place to Land. My little birdies started out as Dollar Tree finds just like hers. With the magic of white spray paint they are now perfect!

Have a great Easter weekend!

The "if only" syndrome

If you have a chance, go and visit Joy at Joys of Home today. She has a post about what I'm going to call the "if only" syndrome. It's about learning to make your home into what makes you happy, not getting stuck on the "if onlys". Joy explains it so much better than I do, so take a few minutes and check out what she has to say.

Just last night, hubby and I were talking about my porch post and he said that he would like to make our porch into my dream porch this spring. Our porch is small (because it's a small little house), there are a couple of areas of the floor that need to be repaired, and it needs a new coat of paint. He offered to make it wider, and wrap it around the side of the house. Would I LOVE this to happen? YEAH!!! However, I desperately want to put in a pool this spring for the kids, and would like to replace the picket fence with a vinyl one so that it doesn't have to be painted every spring. I really do love our porch, and will just be happy doing the repairs necessary to freshen it up this year.

Don't get stuck on the "if onlys," do the little things that will make your home what you want it to be. Get creative!

I have...

Sarah at Thrify Decor Chick has a really great post today. It's a list of things that she has done. I thought it would be interesting to do my own list.

I have been blogging for 2 months now... and am addicted to it!

I have fallen head over heels in love... once in my life (the only time that counted)

I have had my heart broken.

I have given birth twice.

I have had drinks with Dave Chappelle from the Chappelle Show (before he was famous).

I have seen New Kids on the Block live (at the age of 15 and stood on a chair and screamed at the top of my lungs).

I have entered a burning building to fight a fire.

I have done CPR.

I have treated an accident victim that admitted to driving, talking on her cell phone and eating a slice of pizza at the same time.

I have kissed many frogs, and found only one prince.

I have never been "dumped."

I have painted my kitchen 5 different colors in 3 years!

I have found many great bloggy friends in 2 months!

So how about all of you?

Have a great day!

Front Porch Season

Isn't this porch just beautiful? I don't know about you, but I am sooo looking forward to "Front Porch Season!" While my front porch doesn't look anything like this one, I absolutely love having one.

Once the weather starts to get warm, my kids are usually out in the yard playing on the trampoline or throwing a ball around with some friends. The neighborhood little ones are out with their moms and dads riding their bikes. Neighbors that we may not have seen all winter are out for strolls or walking their dogs. Abby is usually trying to get in the middle of one of the activities going on in the yard. Brady is usually napping at my feet as I sit in one of the wicker chairs while Prince Charming sits in the other with a glass of iced tea in our hands. The flowers are all in bloom, the sun is shining bright.

This is happiness to me. The daffodils are in bloom and I know that my favorite season is just around the corner!

I'd love to hear what you love about this upcoming season!

Hugs from Eventually Cottage!

NYC, Celeb Sightings, and Juniors Cheesecake!!!

Thanks for stopping by at Eventually Cottage this afternoon! Sit down, grab a cup of coffee
and join me for a delicious piece of Juniors Cheesecake! I've got some pictures to show you from our trip to New York City today. Eventually Cottage is just about 40 miles north of NYC, but we don't make it down to the big city more than once or twice a year, unfortunately.

Our first sighting in Times Square was The Naked Cowboy! This isn't my picture, because Prince Charming wouldn't let me get close enough to take a good picture. Bummer! Some of you may not be familiar with the Naked Cowboy, but he is kind of a fixture in Times Square. He plays his guitar and poses with people throughout the year. It just always makes me giggle to see him!

I turned my back for one minute and caught Jessica Simpson trying to flirt with the Prince! The nerve of that girl!

Prince Charming and George got a chance to hang out with some baseball greats. What is it with teenage boys and the fact that they never smile?

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt looked fabulous, and were so gracious! They took the time to chat even though they have only a limited time out without the kids.

George got a chance to talk baseball with Mr. Steinbrenner. How about a World Series this year, huh big guy?

Josie rocked it out with Miley Cyrus...

Brittany Spears...

Carrie Underwood...

And the Jonas Brothers!!!! That lucky little chick!

Yeah, I kicked this guy's butt for trying to grab my kids. You know it!
So, did I have you fooled? No? Ok, we visited the Madame Tussauds Wax Museum in Times Square today! Some of those figures really do look real! It's unbelievable! We had a great time in NYC today. We even visited the Great American Chocolate Company and picked up some HUGE Reeses bars.
I hope you guys are having a great Sunday!
