My version of wall words

This is my version of the wall words that I have seen and loved in other peoples homes. I have looked at them online, and a lot of them are very pricey. I tried to cut the words using vinyl and my Cricut, but didn't have much luck.

Soooo, I decided to cut the letters out using black cardstock and the Cricut. Once I did that, I ran them through my Xyron to put adhesive on the back. Prince Charming carefully measured and we put them up on the wall. It was pretty easy... to cut anyway. It took some time to put the letters up, but it's done!

I figure this will probably come down like the vinyl would have. The only challenge will be cleaning these letters. I change my mind so often that these will probably be taken down before I have to clean them. Until then, I'll just enjoy them.

A couple of updates

Update on the window treatment for the Breakfast Room. I really like these panels, what do you think?
Prince Charming finished things off with crown moulding!!!

Laundry Room after, I wish I had remembered to take a before picture. Prince Charming added these french doors that were recycled from a house that was going to be demolished. See my next post for details on the wall words above the french doors.

These are the french doors Prince Charming put up! Don't they look great?

It's going to be a NEICE!!!

A few weeks ago, I posted that my little brother and his lovely wife were expecting their first child in July. Well, it looks like the little one will be a girl!!!

Baby girl's name will be Madeline Grace. Isn't that a beautiful name, that just sings "Girl"?

I'm so excited about getting my first neice! I have a wonderful, beautiful, little 5 year old nephew that I love very much. Andrew is the son of my other brother that left that little boy, our family, and this world waaaay too early due to a terrible battle with cancer almost 2 years ago.

Madeline Grace, you are soooo loved already! Your Auntie Dawn can't wait to meet you!

Now, stay tuned because I will have some update photos of unfinished projects to post later. I actually am off today, with no hubby and no kids! Unbelievable!!!

A New Job!

Sorry that I haven't put up a new post since this weekend. I started a new job on Monday, and have been exhausted. There are a couple of things that I haven't shared with you, until now. I volunteer as a firefighter and an EMT in my free time.

My new job that I am very nervous and excited about at the same time, is as a Communications Operator for the Dept. of Emergency Services. In other words, a 911 Operator/dispatcher. I will be able to use my training from the above, to help more people in their time of need.

Wish me luck!!! I'll keep you posted.

Breaking News- Spring is on the way!

Even though it was snowing here in New York today, I saw signs that Spring is really on it's way!

We went to visit my mom for her birthday today... Happy Birthday Mom... and I saw crocus' starting to come up in the garden outside her front door!!!

I wish I had taken a picture of them for you. Sorry about that. Instead, enjoy these daisies!!!

You have to go and visit Amy! Go now!

Amy is doing a really great, really fun giveaway. Don't wait, go now... and then come back and visit me!!!

Ellie's bench

My cousin's little girl just celebrated her 3rd birthday. I made this bench just for her.

When her mother and I were little, our Grandpa made benches for all of his grandchildren. When Ellie was born, I knew that I would carry on the tradition. Well, it took me 3 years to get my butt in gear and get one done for her, but here it is!

I'm going to be very busy making these benches this year as we have new additions to the family coming out of the woodwork!!! Ellie welcomed her little brother, Johnathan, in December. She also has a new cousin, Sophia, who will be 1 in May. My sister-in-law is expecting in July, and I have another cousin expecting her first in October.

Babies, babies, everwhere! Yay!!!
And, I finally figure out how to put more than one picture to a post! Yay!!!

Thoughts of Spring

Ahhh, Spring. Just the thought of it makes me soooo happy! It's lightly snowing here tonight, and I just wish winter was over already. I can't wait to get out in the garden, can't wait to see the flowers start blooming, can't wait to hear the birds start chirping. I just can't wait!

I need help with my window treatments. HELP!!

Ok, if there are two things where I am definately decorating challenged it's window treatments and table scapes. Today, I am begging for help with my window treatments.

I posted a couple of pictures of my breakfast room re-do on Saturday. In one you can see that the roman shades that I bought don't quite fit. I actually don't mind that fact too too much. However, I am finding the whole look a little boring.

You can agree with me, it's ok. I am looking for a more simple look, but I'm not really sure this is what I want. ):

I would love your suggestions, and would REALLY love pictures!

A Little Love

One last picture for today. Since it's Valentine's Day, I thought I'd show you a "little love!"

This was a grey Dollar Tree frame, that I (ok, Prince Charming) spray painted black. I dressed it up with a little scrapbook paper and my Cricut (a Christmas gift from Prince Charming)!

I love that man!!!!
Lastly for today, but DEFINATELY not least- a huge thank you to Michelle who was the 1st one to comment on my humble little blog! Thanks, Michelle, you made my day!

This is the only wall of the kitchen that you're going to get to see today. I'm sure you can guess why... yup, it's a mess! The kitchen re-do is going to take little longer, and we are throwing around countertop and cabinets ideas (ok, I am).

This is a window that my neighbor was throwing out. If there is one thing that I absolutely cannot drive by, it's old windows!!! I'm a freak, I know! I painted the panes with chalkboard paint, that Josie has decorated for Valentine's Day.

I have many more old windows in the shed, waiting for projects. Stay tuned!!!

This is my little $1.99 thrift store clock. Yup, it's missing it's pendulum.

This is the breakfast room after. I love the more neutral color. Again it was inspired by Melanie's home. The paint color is Brown Tee-pee, from Behr in a satin finish.

The new roman shade that I found matches the paint color exactly, but doesn't seem to fit the window exactly. That's my measuring for you! I'll have to fix that later.

Oh yeah, check out the new table set. A Craig's List find!

This is a picture of the archway after. Thank you, Prince Charming!

Breakfast room re-do

We (ok, I) recently decided to do a small re-do of our breakfast room and kitchen. Prince Charming reluctantly played along.

Here's the before of the breakfast room area. I thought it was pretty before, but was just looking for a more calming, neutral look. I was totally inspired by Melanie's home. I just LOVE her style!

You can also see the archway that leads in the breakfast room. It was a wierd shape. Prince Charming fixed that for me, too!!!

I hope you all have a sweet Valentine's Day! Hug your sweeties tight, and try not to eat too much chocolate! Hee! Hee! Hee!

To Prince Charming, George, and Josie: I love you all more than words can say! Hugs and Kisses!

Oh Baby!

Guess what? I'm going to get a new neice or nephew! Yay!!! My dear "little bro" and his wife are expecting their first child in July. I'm so excited to meet this new little bundle! Rumor has it that if the little one is a girl, her name will start with an "M." So, I painted this little lovely for her. It's all wrapped up and waiting for her... if it's a her. Once they choose a boy's name, I will paint a little cutie just for him... if it's a him.

Home sweet home

My dear cousin and her hubby just bought their first home! Yay!!! I painted this little guy for them as a housewarming gift. In this economy, I think it's important to channel your inner creativeness. You don't need to spend a lot of money purchasing gifts for your family and friends to make them special. This project was easy-breezy, and I know my cousin will love it.

Still getting the hang of this!

Obviously I'm a novice at blogging! This picture was supposed to go with the other random pics. Oh well, I'll get the hang of it "eventually."

This is by far one of my favorite pieces. Believe it or not, I found this radio cabinet on the side of the road with a sign on it that said, "Take Me." How could I resist, right? Hubby and I sanded it, painted it, and antiqued it.

Our home

I thought I'd share a couple of random photos of our home. I see that I really need to learn how to take better pictures. Ugh!

Welcome to Life at Eventually Cottage! Thank you for joining me as I journey through creating a home for my wonderful family. This journey began 3 years ago, when we were blessed to have the opportunity to own the home that my dear hubby grew up in and his mother grew up in before him. It truely is a blessing to raise our children in this home. As we began this journey and started to dream of what we envisioned for our home, one word kept coming up...eventually. Eventually, we'd like to do this, or eventually, we'd like to do that. Thus the name for our home... Eventually Cottage.

I hope you will visit us at Eventually Cottage often and see what we're up to!
